Education is, by its very nature, an interdisciplinary field of study, and Penn GSE is home to scholars from at least ten different academic disciplines (e.g., sociology, economics, psychology, philosophy, history, anthropology, etc...) Our work in schools and with practicing educators from around and around our West Philadelphia neighborhood brings our students and faculty to collaborate with a wide range of colleagues.
We're a relatively small, research intensive school of education. We have just over 40 tenured and tenure-line faculty — together with full-time researchers and teaching staff, that number grows to over 60.
Penn GSE has the advantage of being located in a university that values the work we do — over 20 professors from around Penn count themselves as members of our Secondary Faculty, including Penn's president, Amy Gutmann, herself a philosopher of education.
