How I Made It Work

Julian McNeil

Teacher Education Program, M.S.Ed candidate for 2009

I'm the recipient of the Puente-Forchic Scholarship, which covers full tuition and fees.  I am also a graduate associate at Hill College House so room and board is provided as compensation. I recommend that you apply for graduate associate positions to decrease your cost of living.

Robin Marks

Psychological Services, M.S.Ed graduate, 2007 & Professional Counseling and Psychology, M.Phil graduate, 2008

While I was in the Psychological Services Program, I received $3,000 in scholarship and $7,140 in graduate assistantship. In the Professional Counseling and Psychology Program, I received $6,000 in scholarship. The remaining tuition and living expenses were covered by combination of a Stafford loan, a Perkins loan, and alternative loans.

Thai-Huy Nguyen

Intercultural Communications, M.S.Ed graduate, 2006

I received a $1,785 Graduate Assistantship for my program so I took out maximum amounts in Stafford, Perkins, and alternative loans to cover my tuition and living expenses. I do have a lot in loans but I saw it as an investment in my future - and I really enjoy what I am doing now.

Monique Robinson

Reading/Writing/Literacy, M.S.Ed graduate, 2008

I received $16,212 scholarship from a donor and $6,720 in graduate assistantship funding. I took out a Perkins loan and Stafford loan to cover the remaining tuition, fees, and health insurance. I was able to commute to school from my parents' home, so that helped to keep my cost of living fairly low.

Matt Mettille

Higher Education Management, M.S.Ed graduate, 2007

I received $10,000 in scholarship and $14,280 in Graduate Assistantship for working in the Admissions Office 20 hours per week. I used my savings and took out a Stafford loan to cover remaining tuition and living expenses. In the spring semester, I was hired as a graduate associate in one of the undergraduate dorms so my room and board was covered.
