Official Test Scores

Provide official score reports for required exams. Penn GSE reserves the right to request additional information at any time, including additional testing, interviews, writing samples, academic credentials, etc. from all applicants.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

Request an official copy of your standardized test scores to be sent directly to Penn GSE using institution code 2943. You do not need to indicate additional program codes.

GRE scores are valid and reportable within a five-year period from the original test date.

GRE scores are not required for the following programs: 

  • Education Entrepreneurship, M.S.Ed. 
  • Education Linguistics, Ed.D.                                            
  • Executive Doctorate in Higher Education Management, Ed.D.
  • Executive Master's in School and Mental Health Counseling, M.S.Ed.
  • General Admission
  • Med Ed: Master's in Medical Education, M.S.Ed.
  • Mid-Career Doctoral in Educational Leadership, Ed.D.
  • Penn Residency Master's in Teaching, M.S.Ed.
  • Penn Chief Learning Officer (PennCLO), Ed.D.
  • Reading/Writing/Literacy, M.S.Ed. only
  • Reading Specialist - Certification Only
  • School Leadership Programs
  • Urban Teaching Residency
  • Virtual Online Teaching (VOLT) Certificate
  • *Submatriculating students are not required to take the GRE.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY (TOEFL/IELTS)

The internet-based, Test of English as a Foreign Language: TOEFL (iBT) or the International English Language Testing System: IELTS, is required of applicants who do not have an undergraduate or graduate degree from an institution in which the primary or sole language of instruction is English.

If you are submitting TOEFL (iBT) scores, request an official copy of your scores to be sent directly to Penn GSE using institution code 2943. To submit IELTS scores request an official copy of your score to be mailed from the testing center to:

Applicants who have participated in an English language study program but do not have an undergraduate or graduate degree from an institution in which the primary or sole language of instruction is English must take TOEFL (iBT) or IELTS.

The TOEFL/IELTS is not required for the following programs: 

  • Executive Doctorate in Higher Education Management, Ed.D.
  • Medical Education, M.S.Ed.
  • Mid-Career Doctorate in Educational Leadership Program, Ed.D.
  • Penn Chief Learning Officer (PennCLO) Program, Ed.D.
