About the Symposia
The 2004 Symposia Series consists of lectures, panels, and educational activities within and outside of the University, coordinated in collaboration schools, departments, and programs throughout the University. The inaugural lectures will be held in April of 2004, followed by several symposia which will be held between September and November 2004.
All of the 2004 symposia are intended to highlight the anniversaries of each of the three landmark decisions while provoking a critical discussion of issues facing minority children, families, and communities. In the hope of putting forth a future-oriented set of goals for scholarship, research, policy, and practice, we will continue these activities through a five-year (2005 through 2009) annual lecture and activities series--The Penn Symposia on Equity, Access, and Race--will draw on and cut across multiple disciplines, domains, and areas of public and private interest in equity, access, and justice and the larger question of race and racism in America.
We expect that the conversations initiated through these activities--and the debates they generate--will provide a rich source of information for conceptualizing and implementing a range of scholarly and on-the-ground efforts.
