In July, a Penn GSE team will travel to Haiti to launch a long-term educational development project.
The first phase of a longer-term redevelopment project in post-disaster Haiti, this trip will concentrate on building partnerships with the Haitian Ministry of Education and not-for-profit relief agencies working to rebuild the country. The team will also be conducting a community needs assessment, particularly focused on education.
June 14, 2010 - Rebecca Maynard of the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education has been named commissioner of the National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance.
The appointment was announced by John Easton, director of the U. S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences.
June 4, 2010 - Two Texans have won $25,000 in the Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition, the first-ever exclusively designed to promote innovation to improve education.
May 25, 2010 - On Saturday, June 26, the city of Philadelphia will serve as the origination city for the AmericaSpeaks “Our Budget, Our Economy” National Town Meeting, a non-partisan, nation-wide on the growing national debt.
May 5, 2010 - TIME magazine named Deborah Gist, to the 2010 TIME 100, the magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. The full TIME 100 list and related tributes appear in the May 10 issue of TIME, available at time.com.
A student in Penn GSE’s Mid-Career Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership, Gist was named Rhode Island Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education in July 2009.
May 4, 2010 - On Monday, June 14, Penn GSE will host “New Leaders for New Puzzles,” a lecture by Donald F. Kettl, dean of the University of Maryland School of Public Policy. Dr. John Fantuzzo, the Albert M. Greenfield Professor of Human Relations at Penn GSE, will convene the event.
April 13, 2010 - Amanda Bryans, director of Educational Development and Partnerships at the Office of Head Start (OHS), recently named a new Head Start curriculum developed by professors at Penn GSE as “state-of-the-art practice in early literacy."
April 5, 2010 - Penn GSE Professor Laura Perna has been named a recipient of Penn’s 2009-10 Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching.

March 12, 2010 - On April 1, the Office of Head Start (OHS) will air a Symphony of Literacy webcast featuring Penn GSE Professor John Fantuzzo and one of the Philadelphia Head Start classrooms where the EPIC curriculum is being taught.
