The Center for Collaborative Research and Practice in Teacher Education
Mission Statement
The Center for Collaborative Research and Practice in Teacher Education (CENTER) was created to bring together colleagues from the Graduate School of Education, across the University of Pennsylvania, and the educational community in the School District of Philadelphia whose research and practice address teacher education. A goal of the CENTER is to bring together people and resources to address central challenges in the preparation and support of teachers, with a focus on classrooms and issues in urban public schools. The CENTER actively supports collaborative research and practice that contributes to the preparation and on-going professional development of teachers and draw on multiple perspectives and standpoints.
The mission of the CENTERis to bring together new and veteran teachers, teacher educators, researchers, policymakers, and activists to re-imagine and reinvigorate policy and practice for teacher education locally, nationally, and globally. A primary objective of the CENTER is to advance a collaborative agenda in research on teacher education that draws together faculty, graduate students, staff, local and national educators. The CENTER will contribute new knowledge and new models for knowledge production about the preparation of teachers and the professionalization of teaching. Through the development of a sequence of courses and structured support for research and critical dialogue, the CENTERhas developed a program of study for doctoral students to become teacher educators. Within and beyond the University, the CENTER responds to emergent questions related to the practice of teacher education and teaching as a whole.

Events
The CENTER is co-sponsoring, with the National Resource Centers at the University of Pennsylvania (representing Africa, Middle East, South Asia and East Asia), a unique forum for national, state and local stakeholders in the public and private sectors, to come together for an all day conversation around the key questions related to internationalizing K-12 education in the Delaware Valley.
The primary objective is to begin a critical dialogue between the stakeholders, with the goal of building networks and partnerships that will strengthen international education in our region. The panels will represent policy makers, practitioners, teacher educators, business and non-profit leaders active in international education, and the goal is to encourage exchange and networking between and among the various participants.
This free event is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2008. Please click on this link to learn more.
