Join the Education Alumni Association for a celebration of literacy, science, and learning at the K - 4 Philip H. Sheridan Elementary School in Kensington, Philadelphia.
We will be reading and writing together with Sheridan students and creating big books with science themes. The collaborative event will bring together Sheridan students, families, and faculty with fellow GSE alumni, current GSE students, and members of the Philadelphia Writing Project (PhilWP) for a day of enjoyment and learning.
We will visit classrooms to read colorful and creative children's books that address science concepts such as living and nonliving things, plants and animals, and ecosystems. Reading aloud the big books and conducting shared reading with small groups will give us ideas for making big and little books of our own with the students. We also will embrace the reading and creation of bilingual books.
Event partners can either take a shuttle from Penn GSE (3700 Walnut) at 7:45 a.m. or meet at Sheridan Elementary (800 E. Ontario Street) at 8:15 a.m. for a welcome and orientation. Most of the day’s activities will likely end by 10:45 a.m.
