Hotels

Philly Overnight Specials: The city of Philadelphia runs various specials on accommodations depending on the time of year. For details, check out visitphilly.com/hotels. Another site that might be helpful is http://www.philadelphia.com/hotels/.

We have reserved blocks of rooms at the two hotels closest to campus: the Hilton Inn at Penn and the Sheraton University City.

Hilton Inn at Penn
3600 Sansom Street, (215) 222-0200 or 1-800-HILTONS. Located across the street from the university. Conference rates are $239.00/night for a single or a double (plus 15.2% tax). Book by January 22nd and indicate that you are with the Ethnography Forum to receive the group rate. There is a restaurant in the hotel.

Sheraton University City
3600 Chestnut Street, (215) 596-0369 or 215-387-8000. Located one block away from the university. Conference rates are $165/night for a traditional room or $190/night for a club-level room (plus 15.2% tax). Rooms are equipped with microwave, computer and free internet. Book by January 24th and indicate that you are with the Ethnography Forum to receive the group rate. The hotel provides a secure area to store your luggage upon request. A fee of $2 per bag will be charged for storage.

Apple (HI-USA) HOSTEL
32 S. Bank Street (215) 922-0222. On a tight budget? HI-USA Hostel on Bank Street is about three and a half miles from Penn, downtown on the Delaware River. Ideally located for city night-life; easy public transportation to the University. Dorm Rooms are $33.50-$37.50/night for HI (Hostelling International) members, $36.50-$40.50 for non-members. They also offer Semi-Private and Private Rooms which range from $77-$86/night. Last night is only $20 if check in for 3 days including Sunday. Payment methods: Mastercard, Visa. No personal checks (guests can use a credit card to reserve a bed at http://www.hiusa.org). Discount for booking rooms online at http://www.applehostels.com/ where more information and check-in times are also available.

Bed and Breakfasts

Cornerstone Bed and Breakfast
3300 Baring Street (215) 387-6065. 10-minute walk to the University. Nonsmoking policy. Deposit equal to one night’s stay is required prior to arrival or equal to half of entire stay (whichever is greater). A two-night minimum is required on weekends. Rates range from $150 to $175, with suites available for $205-$215 (with a 15.2% PA sales tax) per night. Rates include breakfast and are for single/double occupancy. There is a $30 fee per night for each additional guest in suites (up to 4 people) and rooms are double occupancy only. Payment methods: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover. The Gables
4520 Chester Avenue (215) 662-1918 (contact: Don Caskey or Warren Cederholm, Innkeepers). 15-minute walk to the university. Nonsmoking policy. Deposit or credit card required with all reservations. Rates range from $115.00 to $185.00 depending on room and number of people. Rates include off-street parking on the premises and full breakfast. Special dietary needs can be accommodated. All rooms have private phones, easy hook-up to the Internet (including wireless), and cable television. Computer station available and free wireless internet. A refrigerator and microwave are available for guest use. A roll away bed may be added to some rooms to accommodate another person for an additional $25.00 charge. Check availability online. Spruce Hill Manor
331 S. 46th Street (215) 472-2213, 1-866-521-2975 (Pin 7000) (contact: Janet Reitano, Innkeeper). 15-minute walk to the university. Minimum 2-night stay. All accommodations are large suites containing bedroom, bathroom, sitting room, and kitchenette. Wireless internet access. Limited free parking. Continental breakfast included. Children over 9 years welcome.  Rates for double occupancy are between $165 and $185 (plus tax). The rate for each additional person is $25. Payment methods: MasterCard, Visa, American Express, personal check.  25% deposit and $10 booking fee required to reserve your accommodation. Make a reservation online or by phone.
