Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)
  

  • The Ed.D. is an advanced degree for education professionals who wish to pursue leadership positions in their field
  • The Ed.D. degree requires a minimum of twenty course units, with at least twelve course units taken at the University of Pennsylvania   
  • Students undertake independent research, culminating in a dissertation that examines a problem in their field of interest  
  • Ed.D. programs are practitioner-focused, and most require some professional experience in education for admission
  • It is intended for students who are interested in applying scholarship and research in a wide range of careers, including K-12 curriculum specialists; school system superintendents; school principals; directors of non-profit organizations and government agencies; senior administrators in philanthropic foundations; and top-level university managers
