Emerging learning technologies hold both challenge and promise for contemporary educational strategies and create opportunities to test new learning paradigms. The Learning Technologies in Education specialization (LTE) is designed for students who want to explore how new learning technologies make a difference in the diverse areas of education. By learning technologies, we refer to the increasing connection between learning, instruction, information, education, and communications. The LTE master’s degree prepares students for success in information-rich environments. Students gain the knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary to effectively assess, design, and implement the use of technology in a wide range of learning environments, from individual distance education and instructional design to mass media and web-based information collection and dissemination. This specialization provides understanding and skills in the following areas: instructional design, learning theory, communication, media, technology, and organizational systems. Opportunities for job placement following graduation include: schools and colleges, school districts, government agencies, private voluntary organizations, and the private sector.
