Financial Aid

The Penn Graduate School of Education is committed to helping students meet the costs of receiving an education at the University of Pennsylvania. The Mid-Career Doctoral Program does not offer fellowships at this time, but instead encourages students to pay for the program through a combination of federal and university-sponsored student loan programs, private scholarship programs, employer support, university payment plans, and personal finances. Mid-Career students qualify as full-time students and, as such, are eligible for the corresponding financial aid resources. Upon completion of the Mid-Career Doctoral Program students may also be eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Federal Loan Programs

Direct Loans are offered to students by banks, credit unions, the University of Pennsylvania, and other participating lenders. The loan is guaranteed by the Federal Government, which pays the interest for students who are financially eligible during the grace period following enrollment and during any authorized deferment. Students must be enrolled at least half-time and show satisfactory progress in a program leading to a degree or certificate. Need is determined by the information supplied on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application. A student may borrow up to $20,500 total every two terms.

Perkins Loans (formerly National Direct Student Loans) are offered to financially eligible students through the University. This loan is guaranteed by the Federal Government, which pays interest while the student is enrolled, during the grace period following enrollment, and during any authorized deferment. Students must be enrolled at least half-time. Need is determined by information supplied on the FAFSA application. A maximum amount of $6,000 may be borrowed each year.
