About the Delaware Valley Minority Student Achievement Consortium (DVMSAC)

Founded in 2004, DVMSAC is comprised of 25 suburban school districts and 2 county intermediate units located throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, southwestern New Jersey and Delaware. Participating districts are committed to enhancing the achievement of all students, and most specifically increasing the academic performance, engagement, and future success of students of color. Toward this end, the school districts of the Consortium have pledged to:

  • Foster respect for diversity and educational equity at the district-level, building-level, and classroom-level
  • Examine and adjust district and school policies and practices to ensure that underachieving students have greater access to rigorous curriculum, quality instruction, and the support structures necessary to achieve high levels of academic success
  • Increase the diversity of faculty and staff at the school level and district level
  • Use achievement and perceptual data to more clearly understand the nature of specific achievement gaps (and thereby more effectively address those gaps)
  • Enhance expectations for success, instill greater rigor in course content, and establish higher cognitive expectations for all students
  • Promote positive relationships between students and adult

DVMSAC Efforts to Recruit and Retain Highly Qualified Teachers and Administrators

Realizing that the attainment of the above goals is dependant upon the support of capable and committed teachers and school administrators, Consortium districts wish to attract highly qualified teaching and administrative candidates. The Consortium defines "highly qualified candidates" as those who meet all qualifications for certification and who...

  • Believe that all students can achieve at high levels
  • Will ensure that all students have equal access to rigorous curriculum and high-quality instruction
  • Possess depth and breadth of knowledge of content within their area(s) of certification
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of knowledge about effective instruction/methodology to address the needs of a wide range of learners
  • Embrace and demonstrate commitment to diversity, cultural literacy, and equity within the classroom and within the greater school community

Teaching and administrative candidates who possess the above characteristics are invited to register with DVMSAC's Registry of Teacher and Administrator Candidates. The Registry serves as a resource to assist Consortium districts and schools in their efforts to attract highly qualified candidates. Human resource and personnel offices in Consortium districts are able to access and review the profiles of any and all candidates on file in the Registry. Candidate profiles will remain "active" for a period of three years. Candidates who wish to update their profiles are encouraged to do so.
