Grading and Credit System

Top

The following grades are used to report the standing of a student upon completion of each professional development course.

Grade Grade Points
A+ 4.0
A 4.0 (Excellent)
A- 3.7
B+ 3.3
B 3.0 (Good)
B- 2.7
C+ 2.3
C 2.0 (Average)
C- 1.7
D+ 1.3
D 1.0 (Below Average)
F 0.0 (Failure)
W (Withdrawal)
NR (No Report)
P (Pass)
S (Satisfactory Progress)

The pass/fail and no grade audit options are available to encourage students to elect courses in subjects they might avoid. Regulations concerning the pass/fail and audit options include: (1) In EDCE courses taken on a pass/fail basis, the standard letter grades A-D are converted to P by the Registrar. A failure is posted as an F; (2) The pass/fail program stipulates that the instructor is not to be informed of those who have enrolled on a pass/fail basis; (3) Students wishing to change a pass/fail grade to a letter grade or a letter grade to a pass/fail grade must do so during the term. After this period, students must petition the Graduate School of Education for retroactive changes in the status of a course. Students should be advised that such changes are granted only under extraordinary circumstances; and (4) Students who take courses on an audit basis pay full tuition but do not receive a grade.

A grade of I (incomplete) indicates that the instructor has given permission to a student to complete assignments at later date as specified by the instructor. Students have one year from the last class of an EDCE course to complete the work. If a course is never completed, the grade of I becomes part of the permanent record.
