Biography
Since 1993, Dr. Maynard has been the University Trustee Chair Professor of Education and Social Policy at the University of Pennsylvania. She teaches courses in research methods, economics, and education policy; directs the University of Pennsylvania’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Predoctoral Training Program in Interdisciplinary Methods for Education Research; is faculty advisor for International Programs; and maintains an active research agenda focused on youth risk reduction and skills attainment. Since 2004, she also has served as senior program associate with the William T. Grant Foundation.
Prior to joining the University of Pennsylvania faculty, Dr. Maynard was senior vice president at Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. There, she directed many large-scale social experiments and studies examining issues related to welfare policy, employment and training policy, alternative and adult education programs, services for teenage parents, teenage pregnancy prevention, and child care policy.
Dr. Maynard is an active member of the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management, the American Economics Association, the American Educational Research Association, and the Population Association of America. She serves on the Academic Board for the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS); the advisory board for the Center for the Future of Children, and the editorial boards for Evaluation, and Effective Education.

and Current Projects
Dr. Maynard currently is completing a manuscript on the costs of teen childbearing, directing a study of Distributed Leadership Training and Professional support funded by the Annenberg Foundation and a study of the 21st Century Skills Project funded by the William Penn Foundation; co-authoring a hands-on graduate-level text on designing and conducting randomized controlled trials in education with support from the Institute of Education Sciences; and conducting comparative research in education, with an emphasis on U.S., Asian, and Middle Eastern systems.
Dr. Maynard is on leave for the 2007-08 academic year.
