Practice Professor of Educational Linguistics

The Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for the position of Practice Professor of Educational Linguistics. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Educational Linguistics or a related field and at least 15 years of experience in additional language teaching and language teacher education.

This position has been created in response to the growing need for language teachers, and, in turn, for professionals who can deliver sophisticated training to trainers of language instructors. This growing demand has created a need for a Practice Professor who can bring knowledge and experience to the innovative variety of language programs administered by the Educational Linguistics division. We expect the successful candidate to provide leadership in developing programming for language educators both locally—across the University of Pennsylvania and greater Philadelphia—and globally.

The Practice Professor would be situated in the Educational Linguistics division, serving as a key member of the academic faculty, and would have substantive involvement in the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Master’s Program and the Intercultural Communication (ICC) Master’s Program, as well as the full-time Ph.D. and part-time Ed.D Programs in Educational Linguistics. This Practice Professor will also serve as primary liaison between GSE and language initiatives across Penn involving, for example, the Penn Language Center, Wharton’s Lauder Institute, and language departments across campus. This Practice Professor will also be engaged with language education researchers and teacher educators globally.  

Practice Professor appointments are made for five years, are subject to reappointment review at five-year intervals, and may be renewed as long as academic needs persist.
