| The Penn Graduate School of Education offers a variety of degree and non-degree programs that prepare educators and educational leaders to advance education in classrooms, universities, research institutes, and not-for-profit organizations. Students build on a core curriculum in teaching and learning, socio-cultural foundations, and organizational and institutional research that is based in research methodology and field experience. Programs include:
Educational
Leadership Program for Aspiring Principals focuses on
the competencies and confidence of instructional leaders.
This intensive program integrates coursework into an on-site,
180-hour internship and enables students to earn
their Principals Certificate in one year and their master's
degree in two years. Using
a part-time, executive education model, a cohort of students
attend coursework each week in the fall and spring semesters
for the first year, coming together occasionally for Saturday
sessions and attending a seminar during the summer semester.
In the first year, students complete five courses and the
180-hour mentorship. At the end of the first year, students
are eligible for Principals Certification. During the second
year, students study on a part-time basis, taking five additional
courses from among the ELD course offerings to earn a master's
degree. For

Educational
Leadership (M.S.Ed.,Ed.D.) is designed for practitioners (teachers, principals and superintendents) who seek to transform schools (public and private) into more democratic teaching and learning
environments. Students gain experience in schools in the Philadelphia region, particularly in urban schools, through both course-based fieldwork and field experiences. The program provides students the opportunity to earn administrative and supervisory certifications, and is also an excellent program for teachers seeking a masteręs degree
for permanent instructional certification as
it provides an insightful view of the organization
of schools. For more

Typical issues addressed include: the economics and financing of education, privatization and alternative forms of schooling, accountability and assessment, and the practice of school reform.
