Penn GSE’s innovation research on display at SXSWedu conference

Representatives from Penn GSE and the School District of Philadelphia (SDP) will be presenting two sessions at this week’s cutting-edge SXSWedu conference in Austin, TX. The fifth annual event, which is part of a family of premiere conferences in technology, music, and film, celebrates innovations in learning.

Innovation in Challenging Circumstances brings together Penn GSE’s Executive Director of Academic Innovation, Bobbi Kurshan, and Practice Associate Professor Martin Ihrig with SDP Superintendent William Hite and Executive Director of School Improvement and Innovation Ryan Stewart. The 10 a.m. March 10 presentation explores how to accelerate innovation in challenging environments. They will also discuss the innovative approaches the newly created Office of New School Models and Office of School Improvement & Innovation is taking to accelerate transformation in the district.

Home and School 2.0 Strategies Grounded in Research will showcase the work of  Penn GSE Leadership Innovation Manager Joe Mazza, who teaches in the Mid-Career Doctoral Program in Ed Leadership. His hands-on session 2 p.m. March 11 addresses research-based strategies for social media engagement as a way of improving family-school partnerships.
