Don Kettl To Speak on Leadership

May 4, 2010 - On Monday, June 14, Penn GSE will host “New Leaders for New Puzzles,” a lecture by Donald F. Kettl, dean of the University of Maryland School of Public Policy. Dr. John Fantuzzo, the Albert M. Greenfield Professor of Human Relations at Penn GSE, will convene the event.

In recent decades, the management of schools, government, and nonprofit agencies has grown increasingly complex and critical. To address these new challenges, new strategies – from transparency tools and social networking, to information technology and results-driven measures – are creating new ways to make these institutions more effective and more accountable. In his remarks, Dr. Kettl will explore the challenges and opportunities that public-sector leaders face in addressing the basic needs of the citizens they serve.

An expert in public policy and public management, Dr. Kettl is Donald F. Kettl is dean of the School of Public Policy and a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. Prior to his appointment, he was the Robert A. Fox Leadership Professor at the University of Pennsylvania and Professor of Political Science.

The address will be held in the Class of 1949 Auditorium in Houston Hall on the University of Pennsylvania campus. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will run from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. and will be followed by a reception.

“New Leaders for New Puzzles” is the Albert M. Greenfield Memorial Lecture, sponsored by the Albert M. Greenfield Foundation. The foundation supports activities that carry on the humanitarian vision of the late Mr. Greenfield, who chaired the board of Bankers Securities Corp. and the Philadelphia Planning Commission.
