Professional Development

Penn GSE offers professional development opportunities for international leaders in the fields of education and business. Founded on the belief that education is the key to economic growth, Penn GSE's professional development programs aim to help educators and managers meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Programs are customized to meet the needs of participants, range in length from two to seven weeks, and are based on the Penn campus in Philadelphia. A city rich in history, Philadelphia is conveniently located, offering participants easy access to educational and cultural sites in other U.S. cities.

Jiangsu Executive Management Training Program a collaborative effort with Penn's Wharton Executive Education Division, introduces university leaders in Jiangsu Province, China, to the wide range of issues involved in managing a university at the senior administrative level.

Qingdao Educational Leadership Institute created in collaboration with the Penn Center for Educational Leadership, provides training for education leaders in Qingdao, China.

Penn-Securities Association of China Program, a joint program with Wharton's Financial Institutions Center, creates learning and peer exchange opportunities for senior executives from the top securities companies in China.

Penn-China Mutual Fund CEO Leadership Program offers an intensive series of seminars led by faculty from the Wharton School and Penn GSE for Chinese mutual fund executives interested in learning more about their industry.

Penn-SASAC Sarbanes-Oxley Program, a one-week program that introduced Chinese senior executives to issues surrounding the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

China Pension Project, sponsored by Morgan Stanley, is a collaborative effort with the Development Research Center of the State Council of China (DRC) aimed at helping the DRC establish a universal pension system within China.

Penn-ICBC Program Executive Exchange Program Sponsored by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, this program has been designed to familiarize participants with the U.S. banking systems; to facilitate communication between members of the Chinese and American banking community; and to introduce participants to the nuances of American business culture.

Higher Education Management Training Program (NAEA) With support from Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, this four-week program introduces Chinese higher education administrators to new approaches to university management, particularly in the context of China's transforming economy.

Penn GSE-CIGNA Training Program Since 1996, Penn GSE and the CIGNA Corporation have collaborated on a program for Chinese executives that focuses on improving participants' knowledge of economics, English, and American culture and business practices, with a specific focus on the insurance system.

GSE - Lucent Program In February, 2001 Lucent Technologies sponsored a program to bring 15 Chinese telecommunications managers to the University of Pennsylvania to receive management training and learn the U.S. style of successful business operations. The managers, identified as future leaders, came from a variety of provincial telecom companies.

Benjamin Franklin International Science Teachers' Program This program familiarizes international science educators with the latest developments in the methodology and technology of science.
