Penn-PCCW International Young Scholars Program
The Penn-PCCW International Young Scholars Program
The Penn-PCCW International Young Scholars Program is one facet of the collaborative effort between Penn GSE and Hong Kong-listed PCCW Limited, one of Asia's leading integrated communications companies. The Penn-PCCW Program provides talented Chinese high school students with educational opportunities and international experiences that will enrich their understanding of the American education system and American society in a global context, in order to prepare them to become future leaders in China.
The Penn-PCCW Program offers its carefully-selected participants the opportunity to spend ten to twelve months in Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania. During their time at Penn, the students directly experience the U.S. education system, and learn how to learn and excel in a new language and educational context. Program participants receive intensive instruction in English language as well as individual counseling and advice in successfully completing the college application process, and are given the opportunity to attend Penn courses in the spring semester. Throughout their time as PCCW Young Scholars, the students are exposed to the American culture and lifestyle.
Fifty students have completed the PCCW Program over the past five years. Every student completing our program has been accepted at a top school. Colleges and universities receiving PCCW Scholars include Ivy League universities, such as the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University, and prestigious schools such as Wellesley College, NYU, the University of Michigan, George Washington University, the University of Virginia, and many others. Each of the former participants have excelled in their studies, with the majority receiving a place on the Dean's Lists of their respective schools. Several students have received awards or scholarships in recognition of their high marks.
