PHILADELPHIA -- Penn GSE, in conjunction with the University’s Center for East Asian Studies and the East Asian Languages and Civilization program, announces a new program in teacher preparation leading to both the M.S.Ed. degree and faculty recommendation for certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education in secondary education: Mandarin Chinese Language and Culture.
This 10-month, full-time program prepares students to become reflective, collaborative and visionary teacher-leaders. It is designed for students who have a solid undergraduate background in Chinese languages, culture, history, and literature, and who want to prepare to teach these in public secondary schools. Coursework and supervised student teaching experiences mutually inform one another and course assignments are integrated with field work experiences so that students learn to think deeply and reflectively about their practice in the classroom.
The program is currently accepting and reviewing application and will admit students to matriculate in the cohort beginning on July 14, 2008. This cohort of students can expect to graduate in May 2009.
Program faculty and staff are looking forward to welcoming all interested applicants at an Open House, to be held on December 4, from 5-7 pm at Houston Hall, Bodek Lounge, 3600 Spruce Street.
