Professional Counseling and Psychology Programs
Track 2: M.S.Ed. + Certification in School Counseling
16 course units (48 credits)
Applied Psychology-Human Development Division
Students in the first fall semester of the Counseling and Psychological Services, M.S.Ed. Program may apply to Track 2: M.S.Ed + Certification in School Counseling, of our Professional Counseling and Psychology Program. Track 2 involves an additional 6 courses (6 course units or 18 credits) after the Counseling and Psychological Services M.S.Ed. Program’s 10-course curriculum, in which students work in a full-time internship supervised by a certified school counselor, and complete a variety of advanced academic coursework.
Internships and the concurrent supervision course, EDUC 697.001, Post-Master’s Internship in School Counseling, are offered only during the fall term for our school counseling students. We require 300 hours of supervised certification internship experiences for the fall semester, resulting in about 30 hours/week of internship experience. All internships are required to begin with the first day of school, or before if there is an in-service training opportunity available for the intern.
For students seeking elementary or secondary certification: on-site supervision must be provided by a school counselor who holds the certificate which the student seeks (either an elementary or secondary school counselor; not a school psychologist, unless the school psychologist also holds the school counseling certification certificate). A minimum of 300 supervised clock hours must be accrued during the internship.
PA Department of Education - Information Booklet: Praxis Information, Required Forms for PA Certification as School Counselor - PLEASE NOTE: Money Orders ONLY will be accepted for Nonrefundable $15.00 fee. (see checklist - Information Booklet) Other Forms of Payment will not be accepted.
