Dissertation Topic: The role of school organizations in beginning mathematics teachers’ professional learning experiences

Eric Hochberg is a fifth year PhD student in the Education Policy program. His primary research interests include teacher professional development and the effects of federal, state, and local education policies on K-12 teaching and learning. Currently, he is on the research team of a National Science Foundation funded study of the effects of middle school mathematics teacher induction and mentoring on teacher knowledge, instructional practice and student achievement. His dissertation is a mixed-methods study of the role of school organizations in teachers' professional learning experiences, using data from the study of teacher induction as well as the Schools and Staffing Survey. Prior to beginning his doctoral studies, Eric was a public school teacher in Connecticut and New Jersey. He earned a BA in psychology and a MSEd in elementary education from the University of Pennsylvania.
