The Student Health Service is responsible for student health
care, both by appointment and in cases of unscheduled urgent care. Since
students are the only population we serve, our services are planned for your
needs. They provide primary care services and use the consultants at the
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) for most subspecialty work.
Student Health offers many services including: primary care medicine, women’s
health, sexual health care for women and men, nutrition counseling,
orthopedics, allergy, podiatry, routine physical exams, surgery, dental
problems, eye care, travel advisory, health care for international students,
medication services, student awareness of safer sex supplies. Confidential HIV
screening is available at
3900
Chestnut Street; for more information, call Health
Education at (215) 573-3525. They recommend that students make appointments to
avoid long waiting periods, although unscheduled visits are acceptable. During
the academic year, Student Health is open from 8:30 A.M.–7:30 P.M., Monday
through Friday and 12:00 P.M.–7:30 P.M. on Saturday and Sunday. During semester
breaks, hours are sharply curtailed. Please visit the Student Health Service
Web site for changes in hours. For urgent care after hours, students should
call the SHS physician on-call at (215) 662-2850 before going to HUP emergency
room, as emergency room expenses are the responsibility of the student. Cost of
outpatient care at Student Health Service for full-time students is covered by
the general fee payment. Students taking less than a full-time course load are
required to pay a special service fee to the University for coverage.
