 Faculty and current students will share their advice for a successful first year at GSE, and demystify the "Penn Myth." Topics will include working proactively with your advisor, conducting academic research, understanding the faculty’s expectations, using campus resources to your advantage, and taking initiative for your course of study.

This program supports our new international students by explaining the learning objectives in an American classroom and strategies for adapting to life on the Penn campus. The workshop and panel can help you make a smooth transition to living and studying at Penn. Lunch will be provided.

Welcome to the American Classroom!
Gain cross-cultural awareness as you explore various learning styles, classroom behavior, and interactions from group work to presentations and participations collaborating with classmates from other countries, and learning and growing from culture differences.

Learning from Our First Year Experience
Students from around the world tell personal stories from their first year highlighting what they wished they had known, what they learned in the process and their recommendations. Faculty share their insights and recommendations for successfully completing your first year of graduate study.

For Students of Color

Program begins at 12:00 Noon in the MBA Lounge

Our faculty, staff, and current students welcome new students of color at this special orientation program hosted by the GSE's African-American Grad Students in Education Organization. The featured program, Resources, Support, and Fellowship at GSE, features faculty and students sharing their advice for a successful first year of study at GSE. Resources for academic, financial, and emotional support will be explored. The program concludes with an optional tour of featured campus resources. Lunch is provided.
