GSE Prof. Bob Zemsky will discuss his new book, Making Reform Work: The Case for Transforming American Higher Education at the Penn Bookstore, 36th and Walnut Streets.

Zemsky offers three rules for successful college and university transformation and explains why improving higher education will require faculty leadership and a strategy for enhancing the system overall.

The Annual Constance E. Clayton Lecture series honors Dr. Constance E. Clayton, former superindendent of the School District of Philadelphia. Over 25 years ago, Dr. Clayton was instrumental in bringing the Head Start program to Philadelphia. This year's event -- a forum on early childhood education -- commemorates that historic achievement by reflecting on the field's current and future relationship to the education of culturally and socially diverse urban children.

Pat Bassett: Leading in an Age of Anxiety

The Mid Career Doctoral and School Leadership Programs invites all GSE students to attend a special event with Pat Bassett, president of the National Association of Independent Schools. Pat's remarks, entitled "Leading in an Age of Anxiety," will address leadership dilemmas and opportunities across the public-private boundaries in education today.

The lecture will be followed by a reception at 5:30 p.m.

Hyunjoon Park: Single-Sex Schools

Korea Foundation Assistant Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for Korean Studies Hyunjoon Park will  present a paper entitled "The Causal Effect of Single-Sex Schools: Random Assignment in Korean High Schools."

This lecture is part of a series sponsored by Penn's Department of Sociology focusing on issues related to education and inequality.

Clarisse Haxton: Families, Schools and High School Choice

Clarisse Haxton, a joint PhD student in the Graduate School of Education and the Department of Sociology, will be present her practice job talk, "The Role of Families and Schools in a High School Choice Process: Information, Applications, and Admissions."
