Professional Biography
Jasmine Marshall-Butler is the Associate Director, Coordinator of Fieldwork and Coaching for the Urban Teaching Apprenticeship Program. Prior to joining Penn GSE, Jasmine served as Project Director for Prepared To Teach at Bank Street College of Education in New York City. At Prepared To Teach, Jasmine worked with teacher education programs across the country to support their efforts to find sustainable ways to fund teacher candidates. She has also taught courses for the Urban Teacher Education Program at Rutgers-Newark, Rutgers Alternate Route Program at Rutgers-New Brunswick, and the First Year Writing Program at Montclair State University in New Jersey.
Jasmine is currently pursuing a doctorate in education at Rutgers University. Her research focuses on Black women teachers in Chicago schools who have experienced the death of a student due to community violence. This research interest was inspired by Jasmine’s own experiences as a secondary ELA teacher in Chicago and Newark, NJ. In addition to the experiences of Black women teachers in urban schools, Jasmine’s research interests also include urban teacher programs and the experiences of pre-service teachers of color.
