Dr. Sarah Schneider Kavanagh, Assistant Professor, will present a Colloquium Titled, "Breaking the Fourth Wall: Research on Practice-Based Designs for Teacher Learning." Dr. Kavanagh looks for ways to improve how teachers are supported to improve their practice. A former secondary teacher, she is an expert in questions of how teachers are trained, ongoing teacher mentoring, professional development, and teacher certification. She is currently a Co-Principal Investigator of two large research projects studying innovative designs for teacher learning. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Washington, where she co-founded Teacher Education by Design, an open-source curricular library of practice-based tools for teacher education. Among other journals, her work has appeared in the American Educational Research Journal, Teachers College Record, and the Journal of Teacher Education.
