Increasing Transparency in Causal Inference Studies in Education: An Introduction to the Registry of Efficacy and Effectiveness Studies (REES)
Presented by Dr. Jessaca Spybrook, Professor of Evaluation, Measurement and Research, Western Michigan University

Calls for improving the transparency of studies and the credibility of study findings are increasing across the social sciences. One strategy that is gaining momentum in the quest to increase transparency is the practice of prospectively registering the details of a study and analysis plan prior to conducting a study. In this talk, I will examine the potential of prospective registration as a strategy for increasing transparency in causal inference studies in education. I will introduce the Registry of Efficacy and Effectiveness Studies (REES), a registry specifically designed for education studies, and consider how the field of education might begin to establish norms around prospective registration.
