Professional Biography
Frances O’Connell Rust is Professor Emerita at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education where she taught from 1991-2007 and adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania. In her early career, Rust started and directed two multi-age preschool/kindergartens. Since 1985, she has directed undergraduate and graduate-level teacher education programs at Teachers College of Columbia University, Manhattanville College, Hofstra University, NYU, and the University of Pennsylvania. She has also served as Senior VP for Academic Affairs and Dean at Erikson Institute in Chicago. She has published widely on topics related to teacher preparation, teacher quality, teachers’ professional learning, and teacher-driven action research and school improvement. She has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Early Childhood Teacher Education, Teacher Education Quarterly, NAEYC’s Voices of Practitioners, and Teachers and Teaching – Theory and Practice. She is a member of the International Forum on Teacher Educator Development (InFo-TED).
