Faculty Expert

Penn GSE faculty continue to contribute their expertise to national conversations about teaching and learning through appearances on the Re-Educated podcast, hosted by Goutham Yegappan.

Recent episodes feature Professor Janine Remillard and Professor of Practice Sharon Ravitch, who each shared insights from their scholarship and experience working with educators and researchers.

Professor Janine Remillard joined the podcast for episode 203, “Math Is a Language, Not a Worksheet,” exploring how teachers interact with curriculum materials and how those materials shape classroom practice. A leading scholar of mathematics education and curriculum use, Remillard discussed the complex relationship between teachers and instructional resources, emphasizing that curriculum is not simply implemented but interpreted and adapted by educators in response to their students and contexts.

Professor of Practice Sharon Ravitch appeared on episode 201, “The Power of Qualitative Inquiry,” to discuss practitioner research and the role of educators as knowledge creators. Drawing on her extensive work in qualitative research and practitioner inquiry, Ravitch spoke about how educators can use research methods to better understand their own practice, engage in reflective inquiry, and contribute meaningful insights to the field.

Together, these conversations highlight Penn GSE faculty’s ongoing contributions to conversations about curriculum, research, and the everyday work of educators striving to improve teaching and learning.
