Overview

Educators compete to see which group will build the tallest tower from spaghetti.

Our Global Learning Assessment Lab is an intentional gathering of educators to unpack both emerging research on and practices in how we assess and understand the impact of our programs with students. We will learn with expert researchers about existing assessments and collaborate to better design tools and resources to help our schools both understand and articulate what students are learning through intercultural and immersive programs offered by our schools. The two-day program will feature a half-day workshop with a specialized scholar along with a panel of practitioners offering practical insights. Our Global Learning Assessment Lab in the United States will be hosted by the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, a global leader in education research, and will focus on experiential and place-based learning.

Our Partnership with Institute for Global Learning

Penn GSE and the Institute for Global Learning are partnering to develop engaging, practice-focused programming that helps educators bring global perspectives into their classrooms. Together, we create professional learning experiences that connect teachers with new ideas, resources, and strategies to prepare students to understand and engage with an increasingly interconnected world

  • 9am-12 noon Purpose and Current Practice: Why are we here? What are we currently doing? What do we want to better understand?

  • 12 noon - 1pm Lunch in Groups

  • 1pm-4pm Workshop with Dr. Zachary Herrmann 

    • Focus on: How do we know that students are learning when they engage in learning beyond the traditional academic classroom, from community-based learning to overnight travel programs? How can we better understand what students are learning in these contexts? How can schools and educators design learning activities and assessments that help students demonstrate their learning? How can we help stakeholders in our schools better understand the value of this kind of teaching and learning?

  • 4-4:30pm Debrief and Review Plan for the Next Day
