Building a Better Folkeskole: Reforming the Danish Education System

2017-11-08 12:30 2017-11-08 14:00 15 Penn GSE Event: Building a Better Folkeskole: Reforming the Danish Education System Christine Antorini, Denmark's Minister of Education (2011-2015), will discuss the politics of education reform in Denmark, the context for education reform, and early evidence of results. Kristina Featherstone DD/MM/YYYY

Christine Antorini was Denmark's Minister of Education for the Social Democrat Party from 2011 to 2015. During her term, the government forged a six-party coalition and launched a major national education reform. The reforms featured a longer and more varied school day; a focus on literacy, mathematics, and STEM; regular movement and sport activity time; and flexible support time for teachers. The reform also garnered strong teacher union opposition.
