In this presentation, Dr. Fran Vavrus draws on two decades of research in the Mount Kilimanjaro region. She will specifically discuss her forthcoming book co-authored by Tanzanian and US graduate students and teacher education faculty from Mwenge University, Tanzania. The volume explores the tensions surrounding pedagogical reform and change as experienced and observed by an international research team.

Dr. Bryan McKinley Jones Brayboy, the Borderlands Associate Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Arizona State University, will present a lecture entitled "Sovereignty Matters: Race and Indigenous Peoples in the Academy." His work focuses on race and equity issues in education, the experiences of indigenous students, staff, and faculty in institutions of higher education, and Indigenous Knowledge Systems in education.
