Doug Toma, In Memoriam

May 9, 2011 - J. Douglas Toma, a former senior fellow at Penn’s Graduate School of Education and founding director of the School’s Executive Doctorate in Higher Education Management program, passed away on May 4, 2011, at the age of 47 of melanoma. At the time of his death, he was a professor of higher education at the University of Georgia. 

Dr. Toma directed the Executive Doctorate program, the first of its kind in the country, from 200 to 2003. He also contributed to Wharton-IRHE Executive Education for Higher Education while at Penn, through his work with the Institute for Research on Higher Education. 

Dr. Toma earned his Ph.D. (1995) in higher education, M.A. (1993) in history, and J.D. (1989) from the University of Michigan and his B.A. in public policy and history, with honors (1986), from Michigan State University.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Bachman and their seven-year-old son, Jack.
