Christine Antorini was Denmark's Minister of Education for the Social Democrat Party from 2011 to 2015. During her term, the government forged a six-party coalition and launched a major national education reform. The reforms featured a longer and more varied school day; a focus on literacy, mathematics, and STEM; regular movement and sport activity time; and flexible support time for teachers. The reform also garnered strong teacher union opposition.
In her talk, Minister Antorini will discuss the politics of education reform in Denmark, the context for education reform, and early evidence of results.
Claus Drachmann, the principal of a Danish Folkeskole, will give his observations of the reform in practice.
Light refreshments will be provided.
