Two recent graduates of Penn GSE’s Med Ed program awarded the Perelman School of Medicine’s Dean’s Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching. This award was established in 1987 to recognize clinical teaching excellence and commitment to medical education by outstanding faculty members from affiliated hospitals.
The Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions brought together 18 early-career scholars from MSIs around the country for ELEVATE, a three-day conference filled with workshops and seminars designed to help scholars make an impact on their campus, in the academy, and in society. Two $20K research grants awarded to Penn GSE faculty members. Professors Sigal Ben-Porath and Rand Quinn will explore the impact of civic opportunities for high school students in Philadelphia. Policy expert Jonathan Supovitz will examine a new model of school leadership.
“C-SAIL situates Penn GSE and the University of Pennsylvania at the frontline of research into one of the nation’s most vital but fraught educational policy issues,” said Penn GSE dean Pam Grossman. “Porter and his team will provide one-on-one support to teachers as they grapple with incorporating standards into their classroom instruction, while also studying what works and what doesn’t on a national scale. Their center has the potential to move the needle on student learning.”
Clonan-Roy received the Center for Teaching and Learning’s Graduate Fellowship for Teaching Excellence. “Good teaching practices are developed through critical self-reflection and student feedback,” she said.
