Sipe Named 2009 Hollinshead Fellow

Dr. Lawrence Sipe has been named the 2009 Marilyn Hollinshead Fellow by the Kerlan Collection of Children's Literature at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. The fellowship supports a month of study at the Kerlan Collection, one of the most extensive libraries of children's books and children's book manuscripts in the world.

Dr. Sipe will be tracing the writing process of a Newbery Award-winning novel, Because of Winn Dixie, by Kate deCamillo. The research will examine diCamillo's rough notes, series of outlines, and multiple manuscript drafts. He will also be doing research on the manuscripts of William Steig's Caldecott Medal-winning picturebook, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble. The Hollinshead Fellowship is awarded once a year to a scholar who intends to do research in the Kerlan Collection.
