Professional Biography
Gina Cappelletti is Assistant Principal of Instruction at Mann Elementary, a K-6 neighborhood charter school within the Mastery Charter Schools network. In this role, Dr. Cappelletti manages the STEM program, focusing on developing access and equity in opportunity and participation in math and science. She began her career in education teaching elementary mathematics in Prince George’s County, Maryland. In 2017, she earned her Ed.D. from the Penn Graduate School of Education, where her research focused on the gentrification of neighborhood public schools in Philadelphia and on teachers’ design work in mathematics instruction. During her tenure as a doctoral student at Penn, Dr. Cappelletti co-designed and led a team to implement a neighborhood-based summer literacy program in four low-income neighborhoods in Philadelphia as a partnership between Springboard Collaborative and Playstreets. Across roles, her work has been focused on the relationship between education and community, from the community of learners in a classroom to the broader communities in which schools are located. She has co-taught Exploring and Enacting Leadership for STEM in the Mid-Career Program and a mathematics-focused module as part of Instructional Leadership to Promote Learning in the School Leadership Program since 2014 with Dr. Remillard.
