Professional Biography
Amal Giknis teaches English Methods in Penn GSE’s Independent School Teaching Residency Program, where she supports best practices as students develop their knowledge and skills and cultivate their crafts as educators. Amal has been a high school English teacher for 15 years; she began her own career in New York City’s public schools and is happy to have landed at Science Leadership Academy in Philadelphia, where she helps students see the value and power of words and literature. She earned her B.A. in American Studies and English at the College of William and Mary before attending Fordham University to pursue her M.S. in Teaching. Amal is a National Board Certified Teacher and in 2018 was awarded the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award. Outside of the classroom, she coaches the SLA Cross Country team and sponsors the SLAmbassadors Model UN international exchange program.
