Professional Biography
Dr. Cheryl Logan, the 2022 McGraw Prize in Education Winner, is currently the Inaugural Director of the McGraw Center for Educational Leadership at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. Until June 2023, Logan served as the superintendent of the Omaha Public Schools, a system serving 53,000 students, for five years (July 2018 – June 2023).
Logan has spent her career in education working in school districts with large immigrant populations and children living in poverty. She has previously served in the following roles:
- Chief Academic Officer – School District of Philadelphia
- Assistant Superintendent – School District of Philadelphia
- Elementary Principal – Prince George’s Howard County Public Schools, Maryland
- High School Principal – Prince George’s Public Schools
- Foreign Language and ESL Instructor – Prince George’s Public Schools, Maryland
She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maryland, a Master of Education Degree from Johns Hopkins University, and a Doctor of Education Degree from Penn GSE. In addition to other forms of diversity among the communities in which she has served, Dr. Logan believes that education leaders must collaborate with governing bodies, students, faculty, employees, and businesses, community, and faith partners in service of their organization. Dr. Logan is also fluent in Spanish. She is the mother of an adult daughter and resides in Greenville, DE, with her husband and two dogs.
Dr. Logan’s current focus is opening the McGraw Center for Educational Leadership in its inaugural year, working alongside the leaders of the executive doctoral programs—Chief Learning Officer, Higher Education, and Mid-Career Programs—as well as the Vice Dean for Executive Programs at Penn GSE. Her research interests include education leadership broadly and how leaders at all levels successfully navigate the politics of leading in complex times.
