Professional Biography
A world leader in viral pathogenesis with a broad background in virology, epidemiology, and public health, Neal Nathanson chaired Penn’s department of microbiology for 15 years, and served as both Vice Dean for Research and Research Training and Vice Provost for Research. His expertise is in the fields of viral pathogenesis, HIV and AIDS, and vaccines. Dr. Nathanson’s research focused on the pathogenesis of viral infections in experimental models. From 1998-2000, he served as Director of the Office of AIDS Research at the National Institutes of Health.
