Professional Biography
James Short is a program director within the Carnegie Corporation’s Education program, where he manages the Leadership and Teaching to Advance Learning portfolio. Dr. Short oversees the foundation’s grantmaking aimed at preparing and supporting teachers and school and system leaders. His work aims to achieve depth, sustainability, spread, and ownership in the implementation of college and career-ready standards in literacy/ELA, mathematics, and science by focusing on the preparation of teachers, the professional learning of teachers and school leaders, the supply of and demand for standards-aligned curricula and high-quality instructional materials, and aligned state and district policies and practices focused on the development of teachers and school leaders. Dr. Short is an educator with nearly 30 years of experience in education and an expert in teacher education, curriculum implementation, and professional learning.
