Biography

Laurie Hall is a seasoned higher education leader with over two decades of experience spanning the nonprofit and university sectors. Dr. Hall joined Penn GSE from the Division of University Life at Penn where she served as Assistant Vice Provost for Strategic Planning and Operations. There she led cross-functional teams in advancing strategic initiatives, divisional planning, and assessment efforts across 15 departments. Her work is rooted in data-driven decision-making, mission alignment, and collaboration.

Her prior experience includes 17 years at Princeton University where she held progressively senior roles, most recently in the Office of the Executive Vice President leading campus-wide planning initiatives, resource stewardship, and risk assessment.

Dr. Hall has centered her work on linking theory with practice. Earlier in her career she worked extensively in the nonprofit sector supporting community reintegration for families impacted by incarceration, housing instability, and HIV/AIDs. She directed the center for volunteerism and service-learning at Saint Elizabeth University and worked with faculty to develop interdisciplinary experiential learning opportunities. Dr. Hall is committed to engaging with stakeholders and developing meaningful partnerships. She has designed inclusive decision-making processes and contributed to multiple award-winning projects.

A graduate of Penn’s Executive Doctorate in Higher Education Management program, with a focus on institutional leadership and the leadership of change, Dr. Hall merges a practitioner–scholar lens with critical, solution-driven leadership.
 

Research Interests and Current Projects

Dr. Hall’s research interests include institutional leadership and decision-making and leadership of change. Her current research explores the roles of college and university senior leadership teams, presidential transitions, and how institutions respond to legislative and sociopolitical pressures.
