June 7, 2023

Five GSE students and recent graduates were among the twenty-nine members of the Penn community awarded Fulbright U.S. Student Program grants for the 2023–24 academic year.

The following GSE students and alum will receive Fulbright funding:

  • Mia Cheung, a master's student studying higher education, received a grant to teach English in France.
  • Teresa Christensen, a master's student in TESOL, will use her grant to teach English in South Korea.
  • Sabrina de Brito, who graduated in May with a master's degree in education and was a fellow in the Independent School Teaching Residency program, will teach English in Thailand.
  • Lauren Lamb, who also graduated with a master's degree in May and was a fellow in the Independent School Teaching Residency program, plans to teach English in Taiwan and conduct research comparing the Taiwanese and U.S. education systems and their values.
  • Vanessa Martinez Penn, a 2022 master's degree graduate, was offered a grant to teach English in Spain.

The Fulbright program is the U.S. government's flagship international academic exchange program. Fulbright grants help support recipients in their education, research, or teaching pursuits for up to one full year abroad.
