Overview

The course will focus on integrating performance expectations, disciplinary core ideas (DCIs), science and engineering practices (SEPs), and crosscutting concepts (CCCs). This approach will equip educators with the tools to create lessons that foster a holistic, inquiry-based approach to science education.

Participants will explore the structure and framework of NGSS and STEELS, gaining hands-on experience in unpacking standards, integrating phenomena, addressing student misconceptions, and designing engaging, inquiry-driven lessons.

About the Program

By the end of the course, participants will be able to explain the structure of STEELS (NGSS), including performance expectations, DCIs, SEPs, and CCCs; analyze and interpret NGSS standards to design and implement three-dimensional instruction tailored to diverse learners; unpack NGSS standards to identify instructional goals and student learning progressions that align with curriculum objectives; use phenomena to drive inquiry-based learning and stimulate student curiosity; address common student misconceptions using research-based strategies that support conceptual understanding; and design and implement dynamic, three-dimensional learning experiences that promote critical thinking and the application of scientific principles.
