Overview

The Strategic Leadership in Education certificate is advanced, executive education for education leaders. Participants explore culturally responsive teaching, strategic goal setting, leadership communication, and personal leadership development while strengthening their ability to navigate productive disagreement, organizational sensemaking, and negotiation. Through a focus on leading change, crisis leadership, and decision-making in politically charged contexts, leaders develop the skills and mindsets needed to guide organizations with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

The certificate includes two modules: 

  • Leadership for Teaching, Learning, and Professional Growth
  • Leadership in the Spotlight 

Who is this certificate for?

The Strategic Leadership certificate is designed to be relevant and applicable to aspiring, new, and established leaders across a wide range of organizations, institutions, and systems. Prior participants have included the following:

Program Curriculum

This module supports leaders in navigating the challenges of organizational change, communicating with clarity and purpose, and navigating times of crisis. Topics include:

  • Leading Organizational Change
  • Leading in Times of Crisis

  • Leadership and Negotiation 

Format and Structure Options

This certificate has been offered successfully for more than five years across a variety of modalities, structures, and locations. Commonly offered formats include:

  • Six-Month Virtual - Engage in bi-monthly virtual sessions over the course of six months.
  • One-Month Virtual Intensive - Engage in an intensive, accelerated format.  
  • On-Site Options - Include an in-person kickoff hosted at the University of Pennsylvania or at your organization.

Affiliated Faculty, Management Department, The Wharton School

Dr. Herrmann teaches and researches collaboration, team effectiveness, and negotiation. He teaches “Collaboration & Conflict” at Penn GSE and “Negotiations” within Wharton’s MBA program, where he has earned three Excellence in Teaching awards. He leads programs and workshops for professionals across a wide range of fields.
