    An interdisciplinary program dedicated to exploring literacy and language through sociopolitical, cultural, psychological, historical, and linguistic lenses. Internships in schools and community and social service agencies allow you to work with learners across generations and cultures.

  • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), M.S.Ed.

    Full or Part-Time | 2 years

    Through in-depth study and field-based practice, students develop the skills to assess learner needs, design customized language curricula, and apply a range of evidence-based teaching and assessment methods.

Doctoral Programs

  • Educational Linguistics, Ed.D.

    Part-Time | 5-9 years

    Designed for early- to mid-career world language educators who have a strong commitment to bringing research into their practice, this program equips experienced language teachers with the knowledge, research skills, and technical expertise to become leaders in language education.

  • Educational Linguistics, Ph.D.

    Full-Time | 5-7 years

    This program focuses on language learning and teaching as well as the role of language in education. Our questions and concerns are situated squarely in educational policy and practice, informing and informed by interdisciplinary theory and research in linguistics, anthropology, psychology, sociology, history, and other fields.

  • Literacy Studies, Ed.D.

    Full or Part-Time | 4-6 years

    Prepares practitioner-scholars to lead and innovate in educational roles within schools, districts, colleges, universities, government agencies, foundations, entrepreneurial ventures, and consulting firms.

  • Literacy Studies, Ph.D.

    Full-Time | 4 years

    Students focus on developing their understanding and expertise in particular aspects of the field such as teacher education, pedagogy, curriculum, leadership, policy, urban education, multicultural education, and literacy across diverse contexts. They also master the art of conducting research on critical literacy issues and challenges, both locally and globally.
