Overview
The Quantitative Methods, Ph.D. program prepares future scholars and researchers to lead the development, analysis, and interpretation of high-impact educational and social science research. This program is designed for those who want to explore the technical, theoretical, and applied dimensions of data-driven inquiry—and use those skills to inform policy, improve practice, and expand access to opportunity in education.
Students gain rigorous training in measurement, statistics, experimental design, and policy analysis, with a curriculum that builds fluency in both foundational methods and advanced modeling techniques. From large-scale survey design to experimental evaluation of interventions, from scale development to longitudinal modeling, the program offers the tools and experiences needed to design meaningful studies and produce actionable insights.
Students work closely with expert faculty and often collaborate on real-world research projects supported by national agencies and organizations. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to develop strong technical skills and critically examine the ethical, cultural, and political dimensions of research design and use.
This program qualifies for the STEM OPT extension for students on an F-1 visa. |

Curriculum
The Ph.D. in Quantitative Methods prepares researchers in education through advanced graduate coursework, research apprenticeship, Ph.D. Candidacy Examination, and the completion of a doctoral dissertation that represents an independent and significant contribution to knowledge. The research apprenticeship provides students with an opportunity to collaborate with a faculty sponsor on an ongoing basis and to participate in field research leading to a dissertation.
