Penn GSE teams competing in NSF’s STEM for All video showcase

 The National Science Foundation 2021 STEM for All video showcase is now open, and two videos featuring Penn GSE research projects are competing for the Public Choice award.

Yasmin Kafai led a team that created SPIKEY-20, a virtual pandemic designed to teach middle school students what viruses are, what infections are, and how community spread happens. Their showcase video tells what happened when SPIKEY-20 hit the Whyville virtual community, and how students learned to protect themselves and their neighbors.

Caroline Ebby and her team have spent three years working with educators to developing and refining a model for the development of mathematics instructional leadership 14 Philadelphia elementary schools. The Responsive Math Project’s showcase video describes this new style of professional development that lets teachers and leaders experience how math instruction can be delivered.

The STEM for All video showcase highlights 287 federally-funded projects that share strategies to address racial and gender inequities and to broaden participation in the midst of COVID.

 Voting for the Pubic Choice award remains open through 8 pm ET May 18.
